We feature wooden sign making classes & parties, furniture painting workshops and decorative painting lessons. We proudly carry General Finishes Milk Paint and Old Town Chalk Paint along with all the extras you might need to DIY. Workshops and Classes

with Route 56

Furniture Painting Workshops

Workshops are beginner level classes and are 4 hours in length. Classes will teach the basic techniques of painting furniture and allows time to paint a small project from start to finish:

Techniques demonstrated include: + Antique glazing + Distressing + Crackle + Dry brush + Waxing

Bring a small piece of furniture to work on. An end table or a chair is a perfect size. No dressers or desks please as these are too large to complete in the time allowed. Paint and supplies are provided.

Classes are $55 per person

Decorative / Tole Painting Classes

Students may be working on separate projects and everyone is taught individually. These classes are at your own pace and allow you to work on an individual project. Classes occur once a week without a specific start or end date. Cost is $9 a week paid monthly at the first class of the month. If you miss a class you can make it up in any of the other classes. There are many to choose from.

Old Town Chalk Style Finish Paint is super easy to use. It has a silky, soft, matte finish that absorbs our high grade Finishing Products easily for maximum protection and durability. It has been specifically created to be used in a variety of ways on many surfaces. It can be used as a wash, dye, smooth paint, or applied thick to create texture. Our versatile Paints can be added to our Finishing Products to create your custom tinted finishes so you can achieve the exact look you want. One of the bonuses….no need to prime or prepare surfaces prior to painting and it adheres to most all surfaces. Easy as 1 - 2 - 3……paint, dry and finish!

General Finishes Milk Paint is our premium interior/exterior rated furniture and project finish. It’s perfect for new or existing furniture, cabinets & millwork. Available in 26 colors, General Finishes Milk Paint is a high quality interior/exterior pre-mixed paint. Not a true “casein based milk paint” but a modern version of old world paint with a strong mineral base. It is adaptable and UV resistant. It may be applied via brush or spray and possesses excellent flow and leveling properties.

You can mix it, lighten it, distress it, glaze it, layer different colors or antique it - perfect for up-cycling or repurposing furniture. You can also intermix our Milk Paints with our Chalk Style Paint.

What you need to know...

FAQ’s

  • How do I sign up for a class? To make a sign you need to call for an appointment whether you are coming by yourself or with a group. We are unable to make reservations through email or Facebook.
  • Do I prepay or pay when I come in? We require a $10 deposit from each guest at the time of your reservation. If you are with a large group of 6 or more we require a $10 deposit at least 10 days prior to your class date. This can be called in or turned in to your hostess.
  • Can I get my deposit back if I don’t come to class? All deposits are non­refundable but transferrable. This simply means that if you are unable to attend your scheduled class you can come in at a later date to make the sign that you ordered. Deposits go towards your balance so you pay the difference when you come in.
  • Do I have to make an appointment to make a sign? For smaller groups of 1-5 guests we prefer at least 24 hours notice to prep all the supplies for your class. We rarely can accommodate walk-ins but it doesn’t hurt to call and see. For larger groups of 6 or more (up to 25 or so) you will need to reserve your date well in advance.
  • How many people can come to a party? We have space for 28 in the front classroom and 10+ in the back classroom.
  • Do I have to come to a party or can I just come by myself? Singles are always welcome as long as there is room. We are open 11-­6 Monday­-Saturday but are here later most evenings or an occasional Sunday afternoon if we have parties scheduled. Please call to make an appointment. We don’t do walk ­ins at this time.
  • Are children welcome? YES! We love kids. If they are 13 or younger they can do a sign for $20-­$25 and the signs are approximately 8x12, 10x10, 4x16 etc depending on the design.
  • What are your prices? The class fee for an adult starts at $35 on up and the kids class fee (13yrs and under) start at $20. If an adult would like to make a kid sized sign they must add it to a full priced sign of $35 or more or pay the starting price of $35 for a kid sized sign. Both signs ordered must be made on the same day to get the discounted price for the kid sign added.
  • Do you do birthday parties? Yes. Our base fee for birthday parties is $200 for up to 10 kids. We require a $50 non ­refundable deposit when you schedule. If you have more than 10 kids each additional child will be $20-$25 depending on design chosen.
  • Where do I find the sign choices? Please visit our new online store!
  • How do I tell you what I want to make? You will need to call in or stop by the shop with sign choices for singles and small groups of 5 or less. IF YOU ARE PART OF A LARGE GROUP: It is your hostess’s responsibility to give us ONE complete list with your $10 Deposit AT LEAST 10 days before your class so he or she would be who you would give your information and deposit to. Please do not email sign choices or send them on messenger through Facebook.
  • What info do I need to tell my hostess for my sign choice? It is very important that you give us or your hostess the following info for your sign choice: Sign Number, Sign Name plus the size, and whether or not you want smooth or slatted. This information SHOULD be given to the hostess if you are attending a party and not coming in by yourself. *Please make sure you order EXACTLY what you want. We prep all of the wood and masks for your order well in advance. Additional charges could be added if you decide to change your size or sign order after it has already been prepped.
  • Can I make a custom sign you don’t have on your website? Yes. There is an additional charge of at least $10 or more for custom designs. Total price depends on the intricacy of the design and how many layers, size, and time it takes to design, etc. If you would like to make your own sign that isn’t one of our choices you must call and schedule a consultation AT LEAST a week or more before
  • Do you ship your signs? YES! We can ship signs. We charge a flat fee of $25 to ship a sign up to 18x28. If your sign is larger additional charges may apply.
  • Do you have Gift Cards? Yes, we have gift cards. We can mail them to you or the recipient if needed.
